Equality before the law at Pride in London

4 July 2026 · Trafalgar Square · Main-stage address

Olivia Campbell-Cavendish delivered a main-stage address at Pride in London’s Trafalgar Square programme for the third year in a row following speaking appearances at the event in 2024 and 2025. The 2026 programme placed her alongside national performers, presenters and campaigners across six central-London stages.

The speech placed trans equality within the rule of law: equal status, accountable institutions and the ability to participate in public life without being made smaller. Its central distinction was between statutory interpretation and personal identity. Courts determine the meaning of legislation in the case before them; they do not exhaust the social meaning of a person’s identity. Nor did For Women Scotland remove the Equality Act’s protection against gender-reassignment discrimination.
