20 June 2025 · UK Black Pride · Community roundtable

Olivia Campbell-Cavendish participated in UK Black Pride’s inaugural Community Roundtable, created to centre LGBTQIA+ Black people and people of colour. The discussion brought together legal, community and public-policy perspectives on equality and collective advocacy. The legal system commonly examines protected characteristics separately, although disadvantage rarely arrives in neat categories. Section 14 of the Equality Act was designed to permit claims based on a combination of two characteristics, but remains outside the law in force. The roundtable considered the corresponding practical question: how institutions can hear evidence from people facing overlapping barriers and convert that evidence into decisions, services and remedies.
