Legal analysis for The Guardian

April 2025 · The Guardian · Video commentary

Following the Supreme Court judgment in For Women Scotland, Olivia Campbell-Cavendish provided video analysis for The Guardian on the decision and its wider implications.

Olivia's commentary distinguished the Court’s statutory ruling from broader claims about the legal status of trans people. It also addressed the importance of participation by those affected by public-law decisions. That question arises against a serious factual background: 4,732 transgender hate crimes were recorded by police in England and Wales in the year ending March 2023. Accurate public legal education matters because uncertainty about rights can itself deter reporting, advice-seeking and access to remedies.
