June 2024 · Housing 2024, Manchester · Sector panel

At Housing 2024, Olivia Campbell-Cavendish joined a Homes for Cathy panel on removing barriers to housing and homelessness services for groups at greater risk. The panel included Steven McIntyre of Stonewall Housing and Maame Esi Yankah, and was chaired by Vicki McDonald.

The evidence demonstrated why service design matters. Ethnic-minority households made up 23% of those seeking homelessness assistance or facing immediate homelessness, compared with 14% of households in the 2021 Census. Research cited by the organisers found that almost one in five LGB people and one in four trans people had experienced homelessness. The discussion focused on cultural competence, safe accommodation, accurate data and personcentred services.
