Olivia Campbell-Cavendish joined an all-trans panel of legal experts briefing more than 60 MPs, peers and parliamentary staff on the implications of For Women Scotland Ltd v Scottish Ministers.
The briefing was organised by the Trans+ Solidarity Alliance and hosted by Nadia Whittome MP’s office. The Supreme Court held that “sex”, “man” and “woman” in the Equality Act 2010 refer to biological sex. It also expressly confirmed that trans people remain protected against discrimination under the characteristic of gender reassignment and through other provisions of the Act. The practical task for institutions is therefore precision: applying what the judgment decided without turning it into a broader proposition that the Court did not make.
